The Anambra State Government, through the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, has announced permit fees for political parties and candidates seeking to deploy campaign materials and conduct outdoor campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Under the new guidelines, presidential candidates are expected to pay N50 million for outdoor campaign permits, while senatorial candidates will pay N20 million.

The agency disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at its headquarters in Awka addressed by the Assistant General Manager of ANSAA, Chika Ngobili.

Ngobili said the briefing was necessary to inform political parties and candidates about the out-of-home promotions and visual campaign guidelines for the forthcoming elections.

According to him, House of Representatives candidates will pay N5 million, candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly N1.5 million, local government chairmanship candidates N2.5 million, while councillorship candidates will pay N100,000 before they can commence outdoor campaigns in the state.

He said, “The permits cover the deployment of campaign materials and activities including posters, public address systems, branded vehicles, banners, fliers, buntings, T-shirts, caps, street storms, campaign booths, rallies, and other related promotional materials within approved locations across the relevant electoral areas in the state.

“The guidelines were issued in line with the regulatory framework governing political campaign activities in Anambra State and ahead of the official lifting of the ban on campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The agency is formally informing political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners, media organisations, and the general public about the Out-of-Home Promotions and Visual Campaign Guidelines for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.”

Ngobili explained that ANSAA is legally empowered to issue permits and licences for the construction and deployment of signage and advertisements, ensure environmental aesthetics, protect public infrastructure, and collect revenues on behalf of the state government.

He said the permit system was introduced to ensure orderliness, prevent visual pollution, protect public infrastructure, maintain professional standards, guarantee fairness and equal access to advertising spaces, and ensure proper coordination of campaign-related outdoor activities across the state.

According to him, all campaign materials intended for outdoor display by political parties, candidates, support groups, advertising agencies, and practitioners must first be vetted and approved by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria before deployment.

The agency also warned political actors against destroying or defacing opponents’ campaign materials.

“We hereby formally notify all political parties and candidates participating in the 2027 general elections in Anambra State of the mandatory requirement to obtain campaign permits from ANSAA before commencing campaign activities involving out-of-home visual promotions, rallies, branded materials, public address systems, and other outdoor promotional activities.

“We appeal to all political parties, candidates, their supporters, and members of the public to be considerate of other users of advertising and visual promotion spaces across the state and refrain from destroying, removing, or defacing campaign materials belonging to opponents.

“Such actions are unlawful and contrary to the principles of peaceful democratic engagement. No political party, candidate, individual, or support group is permitted to erect billboards or advertisement structures in any part of Anambra State except through duly registered and licensed advertising practitioners recognised by ARCON and authorised by ANSAA.

“We are also cautioning against the indiscriminate pasting of posters on public buildings, road signs, bridges, flyovers, drainage channels, public monuments, utility installations, schools, hospitals, and other prohibited locations across the state.

“ANSAA enforcement teams will monitor compliance throughout the campaign period, while violators of the guidelines will face sanctions in accordance with the laws of Anambra State,” he added.

Ngobili, however, urged political stakeholders to approach the electioneering process peacefully and responsibly, stressing that elections should not be treated as a “do-or-die affair.”

He also called on journalists and media practitioners to support the agency in ensuring a peaceful, professional, and orderly campaign environment across the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to release the official timetable and guidelines for the 2027 general elections, which will usher in new administrations at the federal and state levels.

• Funds stolen from customers’ corporate accounts, transferred to over 70 accounts in different banks

Access Bank Plc has approached the Federal High Court in Lagos seeking to recover ₦1.34 billion allegedly siphoned from the accounts of four corporate customers through unauthorised transactions on its Access SME internet banking platform.

The bank’s legal action followed the discovery on August 12, 2026, of suspicious transfers involving the accounts of MIB TXN Bullion, Aba Branch; AIICO General Insurance Company Limited; Apogee Engineering Limited; and SIMS Nigeria Limited.

Court documents showed that a total of ₦1,340,425,393 was allegedly transferred from the four accounts and subsequently distributed to accounts domiciled with Access Bank and 71 other financial institutions.

The affected amounts were ₦590,975,889 from MIB TXN Bullion, ₦420,449,504 from AIICO General Insurance Company Limited, ₦136 million from Apogee Engineering Limited and ₦193 million from SIMS Nigeria Limited.

In an ex-parte application marked FHC/LAG/MISC/1168/2026, Access Bank asked the court to preserve the funds and prevent their further movement pending the determination of its substantive suit.

The bank listed 71 financial institutions as respondents and sought orders directing them to place post-no-debit restrictions on accounts and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) linked to the alleged fraudulent transfers.

It also asked the court to compel the affected banks to disclose the amounts remaining in the beneficiary accounts and watchlist the BVNs associated with accounts that received the funds.

Access Bank further sought an order directing the reversal of any recovered funds into its account, but the court declined to grant the request at the preliminary stage.

In its affidavit, the bank said its internal investigation established that the funds had been transferred without the authorisation of the affected customers and subsequently distributed among several accounts.

The bank said it immediately contacted the affected financial institutions, notified them of the suspected fraud and requested that the funds be preserved while investigations continued.

It argued that urgent court intervention was necessary to prevent the suspected proceeds from being withdrawn, transferred or otherwise dissipated.

Access Bank also maintained that preserving the funds was necessary to protect its customers and prevent cybercrime capable of causing significant financial and economic damage.

Justice Akintayo Aluko, after considering submissions by Access Bank’s counsel, Ifeoma E. Enyinnaya, granted three of the reliefs sought by the bank.

The judge held that the essence of the application was to preserve the funds from further dissipation and that the court had a duty to protect the subject matter of the case.

However, Justice Aluko declined to grant the relief seeking immediate reversal of the recovered funds, holding that such an order would amount to a final determination of part of the case at the preliminary stage.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter until August 31, 2026, for further proceedings.

Justice Aluko also directed Access Bank’s counsel to file an undertaking as to damages in the event that the orders granted by the court are later found to have been unwarranted.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel that allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub for moving illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia.

The agency also arrested the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate, a self-styled luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, Afolabi Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” as he attempted to flee the country.

A statement by the agency spokesman, Femi Babafemi, on Tuesday, said the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), disclosed this while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday.

Marwa described the operation as one of the most significant narcotics investigations undertaken by the agency in recent times, saying it led to the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, the largest cocaine seizure made through a courier company in Nigeria.

According to him, the operation began with the interception of the cocaine consignment concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos.

He said following the seizure, he directed the constitution of a Special Investigation Team to trace the entire network behind the shipment, from the couriers to the masterminds.

Marwa said the cartel hoped to realise as much as N39bn from the consignment through its international distribution network.

“The operation began with the interception of a consignment of 184.50 kilograms of cocaine concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Given the scale of the seizure.

“I immediately directed the constitution of a Special Investigation Team, with a mandate to trace the entire network behind the shipment, from the couriers to the masterminds.

“The cartel was hoping to realise as much as N39 billion from the consignment through their international distribution network, ” the statement quoted Marwa as saying.

Working with the management of the courier company involved, Marwa said NDLEA operatives unravelled a network of intermediary companies and individuals used to process the consignment, leading to the arrest of two key suspects, among others.

“The first, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics firm through which the cocaine was processed, was found to have a direct and sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator. Investigation also established that he packages and processes consignments for the syndicate, routes them to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia, while he was paid in cash.

“The second and more prominent suspect is Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” whom investigations identified as the Nigerian arrowhead of the cartel. Parading as a social media influencer and businessman dealing in gold, jewellery, and luxury goods, Afolabi used his glamorous public image to disguise a criminal enterprise moving cocaine along a pipeline stretching from South America, through Nigeria, to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia,” Marwa said.

Marwa said Afolabi was arrested at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on August 13, 2026, after intelligence indicated that he planned to flee the country on a business-class flight to Paris.

Why I won’t apologise to Okpebholo — Davido

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he will not apologise to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over his decision to share what was presented as the governor’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination result on social media.

Davido made his position clear during an interview with News Central Television, where he spoke about his recent disagreement with the Edo State governor and explained why he stood by his decision to publish the document.

The controversy followed comments attributed to Okpebholo concerning Davido’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. The Edo governor had criticised Adeleke’s frequent dancing at public events, a comment that drew a response from Davido.

The singer subsequently took the matter further by posting what was presented as Okpebholo’s WASSCE result on his Instagram story. The post quickly attracted attention online, with social media users discussing the growing disagreement between the singer and the governor.

During the interview, Davido was asked whether he regretted making the examination result public and if he was prepared to apologise to Okpebholo. The singer rejected the idea of an apology and maintained that he had no plans to withdraw his action.

Davido explained that his decision was connected to his concerns about governance and the condition of infrastructure in Edo State. He particularly mentioned the road leading to the Edo State Government House, which he criticised during the interview.

According to the singer, his intention was to draw the attention of residents to what he considered important questions about the leadership of the state. He argued that the people of Edo State should be able to assess the performance of their elected officials and make their own judgments.

Davido also appeared to suggest that the issue could become relevant again when the governor seeks another term in office. He said he would return to the matter during the next election campaign, indicating that he intends to keep the criticism alive rather than treat the disagreement as a temporary exchange.

The singer’s comments have added another layer to the political disagreements involving him and prominent Nigerian politicians. Davido has increasingly used his public platform to comment on political issues, particularly when members of his family are directly involved in politics.

His latest remarks show that the disagreement with Okpebholo remains unresolved. While the governor’s earlier comments focused on Adeleke’s public conduct, Davido’s response has shifted attention to questions about the governor’s record and the condition of infrastructure in Edo State.

Davido said, “I am not going to apologize to Monday Okpebholo. I posted his WAEC results for the people of Edo State to see who is governing them.”

He added that the road leading to the Government House would remain an issue and said, “We will visit him when it is time for his re-election.”
