Ogurute Uno community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area Enugu State, has spiritually handed over to deities some unknown persons who recently vandalized and carted away vital equipment from the hospital newly built by the state government for the community.

The community has asked the deities to ‘take care’ of any man or woman in possession of the stolen hospital equipment just as it warned the criminals to return the stolen items without delay and be forgiven.

The General hospital was therefore dedicated to deities for protection and security henceforth.

The community said the decision to approach the deities followed series of vandalism and theft at the hospital, resulting in the loss of valuable equipment worth millions of naira, including an ambulance, children’s beds, solar panels, and TV sets.

A community leader who was seen in a viral video speaking to the dieties, expressed frustration and disappointment, stating that the community is being sabotaged by unknown individuals stealing the hospital’s equipment.

The community leader can be heard in the video saying; “The people here today are people of Ogurute Uno community.

“This is Ogurute Uno General Hospital built for us by the government.

“The government brought for us equipment for taking care of the sick in our villages. They also equipped this hospital to enable it function to the benefits of our people.”

He said, “But, thieves have stolen the equipment such as air-conditioners, solar battery, solar panels, an ambulance bus, TV sets, wheelchairs, stretchers, ceiling fans children’s beds.

“And to think that these things were provided not too long ago, is more worrisome.

“This is the main reason we have come together and agreed to hand over this General Hospital to the deities here. Yes, it may look as if we’re going too far but we have suffered from the wickedness of man. And we want to put a stop to it.”

“Any man or woman who said he or she is not happy about this hospital and has a hand in the missing items, let the deities take care of them,” he added.

The community however assured that they would forgive the thieves if they returned the stolen items as soon as possible otherwise the deities would visit such persons.

Suspected bandits have allegedly kidnapped 18 students from Oyo State travelling from Sokoto State to their hometowns in Oke-Ogun, after attacking their chartered bus and killing the driver, sources familiar with the incident have said.

The students, who were travelling from Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, were reportedly intercepted by the assailants along the route to Oyo State within the past 48 hours.

The abductors were said to have moved the victims towards the Mokwa axis.

The development has raised fresh concerns over the safety of students travelling between states, particularly along routes where commuters have repeatedly faced attacks and abductions.

An Oke-Ogun youth leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, clarifying that the victims were students of Gamji College of Health Technology and not Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as earlier reported.

“Sadly, the unfortunate incident is being confirmed by me because I’m from Oke-Ogun too, and our people have confirmed that it truly happened in the past 48 hours,” the youth leader said.

He explained that the students were travelling in a chartered bus from their institution in Sokoto to Oke-Ogun, with Igboho as their specific destination.

“But it wasn’t a bus conveying UDUS students. It was a bus taking students from Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, to Oke-Ogun, Igboho to be precise,” he said.

According to him, the attackers killed the driver before taking the students away.

“The driver was killed and all the students were kidnapped. They have reached the Mokwa side,” he said.

The youth leader further disclosed that the driver’s remains had been buried.

“The driver was killed at the scene and his remains were buried on Saturday,” he said.

Other sources familiar with the incident said the number of abducted students could be as many as 18.

The sources said the students were travelling in a chartered bus arranged by their school to convey them to their respective hometowns in Oyo State when the vehicle was intercepted by the assailants.

They were reportedly taken away by the attackers after the driver was killed.

The latest incident comes barely days after 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members were reportedly abducted by gunmen in Imo State.

The victims were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when gunmen reportedly attacked their two buses along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Efforts to obtain further information from the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, proved abortive, as he had not responded to messages sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

The aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday.

A community leader had confirmed the crash, but said residents were yet to establish the exact location and other details.

He said: “Yes, it is true. A helicopter crashed at Igbokoda, Ondo State. But we don’t know the exact place and other details.”

However, NAF confirmed the incident on Monday in a statement, saying it had activated an immediate search-and-rescue operation following the crash involving an ATR-42 aircraft.

The aircraft was said to have been on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.

In a statement by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF said: “The aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.

“Search and rescue operations, in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies, are currently ongoing.

“The NAF is committed to ensuring the success of the ongoing search and rescue efforts. Further details will be communicated in due course.”

Aviation Ministry

Also confirming the crash, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, disappeared after air traffic controllers lost contact with it at about 9:13 a.m.

Keyamo said the aircraft was en route to Lagos from Benin when all efforts to raise it on radio proved unsuccessful.

He said subsequent information confirmed that the aircraft had crashed close to the Naval Base in Igbokoda and that the wreckage had been located.

“Preliminary information suggests that there were 25 passengers and 7 crew members on board,” Keyamo said.

The minister did not provide further details on the condition or identities of those on board, as search and rescue operations were still ongoing.

Keyamo noted that the control and regulation of military aircraft were outside the authority of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

He, however, said he had spoken with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and pledged the ministry’s full cooperation and assistance in the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

“Further information on this unfortunate incident will be made available subsequently,” he said.
