The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested one Ibrahim Isiaka for allegedly slitting the throat of a commercial motorcyclist and snatching his motorcycle in the Karu Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement signed and made available in Lafia on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel,  the suspect was arrested following painstaking efforts by policemen attached to the Masaka division in the area.

Nansel said the suspect mounted a commercial motorcycle to convey him to Bigmali along Jankanwa Road in Masaka, but unknown to the motorcyclist, the suspect had conspired with an accomplice to dispossess him of his motorcycle.

“While in transit, the suspect used a knife and slit the throat of the commercial motorcyclist and snatched the motorcycle with the help of the other suspect still at large,” he said.

The police spokesperson further narrated that as soon as the command received information of the dastardly act, its officers immediately swung into action, and rushed the victim to the hospital to save his life.

“The victim is still in an undisclosed medical facility and is responding to treatment. A thorough manhunt led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the stolen motorcycle.

The Federal Government and Enugu State Government are in talks to ensure the commencement of direct cargo flight operations between Enugu and Guangzhou, China, before the end of the year.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr Festus Keyamo, disclosed this in Lagos during the launch of the United Air’s newly acquired airplanes on Thursday.

The Minister added said the FG had affected a structural management overhaul at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, also bringing the airport under a privately run operational framework.

“One of our prides in the South is the Enugu International Airport. The Enugu governor approached Mr. President, noting that the airport was not maximising its economic potential under standard bureaucratic structures, and requested to bring in private investors to run it. Mr. President gave the green light.

“As I speak with you, Enugu is now fully privately owned and fully supported by state government, with the clear objective of also turning it into a dedicated cargo hub for the entire Southeast.”

To this effect, therefore, Keyamo said that a high-level bilateral trade negotiations were ongoing with a view to securing direct logistics flights between China and the Southeast by the end of 2026.

“Just two days ago, the Enugu governor and I were actively negotiating the first direct cargo flight from Guangzhou, China, straight into Enugu.

“We are targeting December for the maiden flight. This will allow our Southeast merchants and traders in China to consolidate their goods into unified cargo accounts twice a week, flying straight into Enugu for seamless delivery to hubs like Onitsha and Aba,” he concluded.

It is recalled that Governor Mbah had in July 2025 launched Enugu Air, a state-owned airline, as part of the administration’s integrated blueprint for a modern, multimodal transport ecosystem and the vision to make Enugu a major aviation and logistics hub.

Since then, Enugu Air has grown its fleet from three at inception to six planes with plans to further increase it as it prepares to commence operations to regional destinations like Accra, Libreville, Abidjan in next few months and long haul flight operations to various destinations around the world by the end of the year.

The Federal Government is considering a new initiative that would allow journalists to accompany military personnel during selected operations.

This was said to be in a bid to improve security reporting and give the public greater insight into the realities of counterinsurgency and other internal security efforts.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, disclosed the plan on Thursday at the National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abuja.

Represented by his Special Adviser, Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, the minister said the proposed arrangement would foster closer collaboration between the media and security agencies while promoting transparency in military activities.

Musa noted that the media plays a strategic role in shaping public perception of security operations and national stability, adding that security management now extends beyond conventional battlefields.

He explained that modern conflicts are increasingly influenced by information and narratives, making the media an important stakeholder in the country’s security architecture.

According to the minister, the success of security operations should not be assessed solely by military victories but also by the level of confidence citizens have in security institutions.

“More than ever before, the media are not only enablers; they are stabilizers of government.

“The defense ministry is exploring arrangements to embed journalists with military units during operations to enable more accurate reporting and deeper understanding of operational realities,” he said.

Musa said the initiative was part of broader efforts by the ministry to strengthen engagement with the media and ensure that information about military operations is conveyed accurately to the public.

He stressed that improved cooperation between journalists and security agencies would contribute to building public trust and enhancing national security outcomes.

The proposed arrangement comes as Nigeria continues to battle multiple security challenges, including insurgency.

Security agencies have often faced criticism over limited access to operational areas, a situation that has sometimes fuelled misinformation, conflicting reports and public skepticism about developments on the frontlines.
