Students injured as gunmen storm school in Ebonyi
Seven students of Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology, Ngbo, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were injured during a robbery attack by suspected gunmen at the school hostel.
Sources said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Tuesday as armed men broke into the students’ hostel and robbed them of their belongings.
It was also revealed that the school hostels have no fence or security post, making them porous for criminals to invade.
The spokesperson of the Ebonyi Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, in a phone call, said that upon receiving the information of the attack, operatives were mobilised immediately to track down the perpetrators.
Upon arriving at the scene, the criminals had escaped into the bush. Ukandu added that the police are actively trailing the criminals to apprehend them and recover stolen items.
Meanwhile, the injured students are receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

At the time of filing this report, the school authorities have yet to issue any official statement regarding the attack.
Monarch’s Death: Police Arrest Suspects
In the meantime, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Ebonyi State Command, last week said they have arrested six suspects linked to the murder of HRH Eze Josephat Ikegwu, the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu.
According to him, the breakthrough followed a sustained intelligence-led investigation, which led to the arrest of the six suspects.
During the operation, police operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition.
Ukandu stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Hope Okafor, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to justice, stating that “No individual involved in criminality will be allowed to evade justice.” (Channels)

Man drags Ex-Fiancée, Mother to court over alleged breach of agreement to formalise marriage
Mr Ibrahim Tanko has dragged his former fiancée, Abigail Hammam and her mother before the Upper Area Court in Marraba Gurku, Abuja, over alleged breach of agreement to formalise marriage.Breaking news alerts
Ibrahim filed the case against Hammam and her mother, Hannatu, who live in New Nyanya, Karu, FCT.
According to the particulars of claim, the plaintiff averred that he met Hammam in 2012 and sought her hand in marriage.
He said he approached Hannatu for her permission to perform all marriage rites, which she granted on the condition that her daughter will not convert from Christianity to Islam and that family approval would be obtained.
The plaintiff further averred that while awaiting family approval, he and Hammam got intimate, which led to the birth of their daughter.
He said he took full custody and care of the child, and that she later moved in with him.

”She moved in with me with her mother’s permission while we awaited the final family for the marriage.
“After much delay, I discovered that the defendants were playing games with me because they had reached a decision not to allow the marriage.
“My former fiancée became hostile and later left me and taking our daughter away for over three months, before returning to push for custody,” he said.
The plaintiff averred that due to his former fiancée’s confrontation and violence, he reported the matter to the Mpape Police Station, where it was resolved that he should retain custody of their daughter, while the mother would have access.
He alleged that the agreement remained unaltered until the defendants allegedly took the child away for over five months without his consent.
He said he later discovered that after taking the child, his former fiancée got married to another man, with whom she is presently living, and dumped their daughter with her mother without his consent.
Tanko added that he has been solely responsible for the upbringing, education, and welfare of their daughter since birth.
He, however, said all efforts to get the defendants to return the child to him failed, and the child’s education and welfare now hang in the balance.
Tanko is praying the court for an order granting him custody of his daughter.
An order granting his former fiancée reasonable visitation rights at reasonable times with reasonable notice, structured to suit the child’s welfare, schooling and emotional needs.
The Judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the matter until June 25, 2026 for hearing. (NAN)

Group unveils Campaign Vehicles, Uniforms, Band Equipment for Mbah’s Re-election Drive
A pro-Peter Mbah support group, Tomorrow Is Here Movement, has unveiled campaign vehicles, uniforms, musical instruments, public address systems and other mobilisation materials ahead of the 2027 governorship election, declaring its readiness to intensify grassroots advocacy for the governor’s second-term bid.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony in Enugu on Tuesday, the Convener of the group, Hon. Tony Okonkwo, said the initiative was part of the movement’s contribution towards sustaining support for Governor Mbah, whom he described as a transformational leader deserving of another term in office.
Okonkwo explained that the newly unveiled vehicles were donated by public-spirited individuals and organisations impressed by the governor’s performance in governance and leadership.
He expressed appreciation to supporters of the project, including Fontana Group of Companies, former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ferdinand Ukwueze, the management of Tribu Hotel, and several other contributors for their support.
According to him, the movement would deploy the vehicles, musical instruments and public address systems to promote awareness of the achievements of the Mbah administration and mobilise support for the governor when the official campaign season begins.
“We are thinking ahead and preparing for the future. We have already launched a state-of-the-art band and today we are unveiling vehicles, musical instruments, public address systems and uniforms for the project. These resources will be put to good use in advancing our vision and communicating the achievements of this administration,” he said.

The convener commended members and supporters of the movement for embracing what he described as Governor Mbah’s bold vision for Enugu State, adding that the administration’s projects and programmes were already transforming lives across the state.
He cited the government’s investments in education, security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, women’s economic development and transportation as evidence of what he termed “purposeful leadership.”
“Wherever you look, you can see signature projects and legacy programmes that are changing lives. From smart schools and free education to improved security, economic growth, infrastructure development and youth empowerment, the governor has created opportunities for the people,” Okonkwo stated.
He urged residents who were yet to identify with the movement to join what he described as a people-driven initiative, insisting that Governor Mbah remained the best candidate to continue the state’s development trajectory.
Following the unveiling, thousands of supporters embarked on a road procession across major parts of Enugu metropolis to sensitise residents on voter participation and the need to register for future elections.
The procession moved through Ogui Road, New Haven, Independence Layout, Emene, New Layout, Obeagu, Asata, Maryland, Coal Camp and GRA, attracting enthusiastic responses from residents who joined the rally and expressed support for Mbah’s re-election.
Okonkwo further added that the awareness campaign was aimed at deepening political participation and consolidating public support for the administration’s development agenda.

EBOLA: Tinubu approves ₦10bn for emergency, establishes task force

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats and ordered the immediate release of N10 billion as emergency intervention funding.
The fund will strengthen the operational preparedness of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and support critical national public health emergency response activities.
A statement by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, explained that the Presidential Task Force on Ebola will be chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with membership drawn from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and State representatives.
Ebola has recently resurfaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, both neighbouring countries.
According to the statement, “The President’s approval followed a stakeholder meeting convened under the chairmanship of the Chief of Staff to review Nigeria’s preparedness and develop strategies against the possible importation of Ebola into Nigeria.”
Other critical stakeholders at the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Lagos State Government, and others.

President Tinubu also directed all States hosting international airports and international border corridors, as well as relevant MDAs, to submit their plans, funding requirements and intervention needs for consideration and coordinated implementation.
Additional measures to be put in place by the Task Force are: Intensification of passenger screening at all international airports, including enhanced temperature checks and crowd-control protocols; Enhanced monitoring of passengers arriving through high-risk airline routes including Air Uganda, Rwanda Air, Air Tanzania, Air Angola, Kenya Airways, and Ethiopian Airlines; and Immediate activation of referral and isolation centres at Lagos and Abuja international airports, with other airports to follow.
Others include: Mandatory activation of QR code-based pre-arrival health declaration systems for passengers originating from or transiting through designated high-risk countries, and disinfection of departure halls, cargoes, baggage areas, and airport facilities as precautionary environmental measures.
The President mandated that the advisory group consult with security, diplomatic, and aviation bodies with a view to regulating flights from affected and designated high-risk countries.
The Task Force is further directed to designate specific airports or terminals for high-risk flights to enable controlled screening and isolation procedures, and to consider adjusting flight timings to minimise interaction between high-risk passengers and others.
