The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, attributing it to security concerns following reports of alleged U.S. military plans over Christian killings and genocide in the West African sub-region.

Military sources in N’djamena, which houses the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, confirmed on Monday that President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a complete military lockdown along the Nigerian border.

This is after intelligence suggested that terrorist elements from northern Nigeria were preparing to flee into Chadian territory.

The sources said the Chadian army has been placed on full alert, with troops and armoured vehicles deployed across key border corridors linking the two countries.

The president was quoted as warning that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise.”

The move comes amid heightened regional tension and growing speculation over America’s alleged military activities in parts of West Africa.

Security sources reiterated the closure was a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding Chadian sovereignty and preventing possible infiltration by armed groups exploiting regional instability.

Detained IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Nigeria urged US President Donald Trump to initiate an investigation into the “killings of Christians and Igbo people” in the southeast region.

Nnamdi Kanu, in a letter dated Nov. 6 and transmitted through his lawyer to the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, appealed to Trump to act on his statement that the US was “prepared to act militarily and cut aid if Nigeria fails to protect its Christian population.”

“You have seen the truth: Christians in Nigeria face an existential threat. I write to you now to reveal that this challenge affects the Igbo heartland, where Judeo-Christians continue to suffer hardship,” he wrote in the letter that was seen by Anadolu.

Kanu wants “a U.S.-led independent inquiry into the situation of Judeo-Christians in Eastern Nigeria, with full access to mass graves, military logs, and survivor testimonies.”

IPOB is seeking to establish a separate state of Biafra for the Igbo people in the southeast.

Kanu said his letter was prompted by Trump’s recent declaration that the US was prepared to act militarily and cut aid to Nigeria if the government failed to protect Christians from persecution.

He alleged that the persecution of Christians in Nigeria had extended beyond the northern region to the Igbo heartland, where, according to him, government forces have committed atrocities under the guise of counter-terrorism operations.

“Christians in Nigeria face an existential threat. I write to reveal that this genocide has metastasized into the Igbo heartland, where Judeo-Christians are being systematically exterminated,” Kanu stated.

The IPOB leader, who described his movement as a peaceful and non-violent civil rights organization, claimed to have survived four assassination attempts by state agents since 2015.

He also reiterated that his 2021 arrest and rendition from Kenya to Nigeria were illegal, citing court rulings in both countries and a 2022 United Nations opinion declaring his detention arbitrary.

Kanu listed a series of incidents which he said amounted to crimes against humanity, including the Nkpor Biafra Heroes Day killings (2016), Aba massacre (2016), Operation Python Dance II in Afaraukwu (2017), Obigbo killings (2020), and the Port Harcourt Trump solidarity rally (2017), alleging that hundreds of unarmed civilians were killed during these operations.

He accused the Nigerian military and security agencies of complicity in the killings and identified former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), and the current Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, among those who should face international sanctions.

Kanu also appealed to Trump to support a U.S.-led congressional hearing and an internationally supervised referendum on self-determination for the Igbo people, describing it as “the only peaceful path to ending the cycle of violence.”

“Mr. President, history will judge us by what we do when genocide knocks. You have the power to stop a second Rwanda in Africa,” he wrote.

Kanu, who signed the letter as a “Prisoner of Conscience,” attached several documents to support his claims, including the 2022 Court of Appeal judgment that discharged him, United Nations and Amnesty International reports on human rights abuses, and the Kenyan High Court judgment condemning his rendition.

…As ESUT Medlab Department fails to induct graduates after nine years on a five-year programme

Dozens of University of Jos dental students have taken to the streets to protest the non-accreditation of their courses, which has resulted in them spending over ten years in school without graduating.

This is as the graduates of Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been frustrated on one spot for nearly four years.

The UNIJos students, on Wednesday, blocked the university gate at its Permanent site, singing solidarity songs and carrying placards with different inscriptions which read, “Save us from unending depression,” “Our future is on hold,” “Accredit us now,” and “We are tired of UNIJOS,” among others.

The President of the Jos University Dental Students Association, Mr. Johnson Titus, who spoke on behalf of the students, demanded that the management address their plight and provide a solution to their predicament.

“What you see behind me is the frustration of dental students who have been in the university for the past ten years without graduating. We have been stagnating because of the non-accreditation of our programme.

“The students are calling on the university management and relevant authorities to come forth and address their issues, which include getting a date for accreditation and resolving the curriculum problems,” Titus said

The student leader who blamed the university for their plight added, “Nobody should blame us because if the university is going to do screening and admission, they don’t usually inform students that there is no accreditation for the affected programme.

At ESUT, the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Faculty of Basic and Allied Medical Sciences, could not offer any explanation as to why they have not been able to conduct any further Induction of their Medical Laboratory Sciences graduates since 2022.

This is irrespective of the Council of Medical and Laboratory Sciences having given approval for 250 graduates for the institution.

Several of ESUT Medlab students who had since completed all they were required to have done prior to induction, passing all the internal and professional examinations as prescribed and after having paid the necessary fees required for their induction, are facing despondency, frustration and getting dejected as to why they chose that University.

Of the backlog graduates of the department, still awaiting induction, those who took exams and passed in 2022 up to the batch that qualified in June, this year, are all holes up from progressing with their career path, simply because the university has refused to perfect the necessary arrangements with the Laboratory Sciences Council, the professional/accrediting body to fix a date for their induction.

The Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty are aware that the students are still required to embark on another process of their training, known as Internship and thereafter proceed for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

However, with this needless and wicked delay, most of their students would have clicked 30 years and so, would automatically be exempt from NYSC and become ineligible for apply for employment, especially in organisations or agencies where entry age limit is required.

Unlike the UNIJos students whose President elected to speak, the Student Union President of ESUT Medical Laboratory Sciences Students, refused to speak for fear of intimidation.

The Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Dr. Miriam Aniagolu, when contacted said the university is doing its best to see that the induction is carried out before the end of the year, a statement she has repeated severally since her appointment over a year ago.

“We are doing our best. The Senate has approved their results, it is remaining for us to get a date from the Council for their induction,” she stated.

However, when asked why they should subject their students to such debilitating situation, she has nothing more to say.

When she was also reminded that same set of students had three years ago demonstrated over the protracted delays in the academic programme, she cut off the telephone interview.

Neither the Vice-Chancellor of ESUT, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, nor Chairman of the Governing Council, Sir. Chinyeaka Ohaa, were willing to make any comment on the matter, when they were contacted.

Bandits ‘Demand’ N40trn Ransom For 16 Abducted Kaduna Residents By Journalist101 -March 11, 20240 Fidelity Advert Share Bandits have reportedly demanded N40 trillion as a ransom to release the 16 residents abducted from the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna. recommended by THE FINANCIAL MERCURY Crypto Millionaire Predicts “This Coin Will 100x By 21 Mar 2024” 3700 people rush to copy along after his last prediction rose by 692 times READ NOW Speaking with TheCable on Monday, John Yusuf, a community leader, said the bandits contacted family members of the victims and also demanded 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles. This is the first time bandits would make such a huge demand since abduction for ransom started in Nigeria. On February 28, bandits killed two residents of Anguwan Auta in Gonin Gora and abducted several others. After the attack, residents of the area on February 29 blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway for several hours to protest against the killing and abduction. Yusuf said the bandits attacked the community twice within the week. “The bandits have contacted us. They are demanding N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles for the release of 16 people they are holding captive,” he said. “Where are we going to get this kind of money? Even if we sell the entire community, we cannot raise N40 trillion. Even Nigeria as a country has never made a budget of N40 trillion. “The abductions happened twice within four days interval. During the first attack, three people were kidnapped while in the second attack, 13 people were abducted bringing the total number of people being held captive to 16.” He said the communities in Birnin Gwari are surrounded by bushes serving as hideouts for the bandits, adding that the establishment of a military base would tackle the criminal operations in the area. “We are pleading with the government to come to our aid by establishing a military base behind our community where the bandits take advantage of the bushes to invade our community,” Yusuf said. “From our community down to Birnin Gwari which is over 150 kilometres is a stretch of bush. “We also have another stretch of bushes from Gonin Gora down to Niger state. “So when the criminals have free access through the bushes to our community. We are pleading with the government to help us. “The army are really trying, despite the fact that they are seriously overstretched. Whenever we make distressed calls they come. “But the problem is that before they reach the community, the bandits would have done what they wanted and left.” The community leader commended the Nigerian Army for their efforts in fighting bandits.

The Senate has approved a bill prescribing up to 14 years imprisonment for educators convicted of sexually harassment of students in tertiary institutions.

The move comes amid recurring reports of lecturers coercing students for grades, admission advantages and other academic favours.

The bill titled Sexual Harassment of Students (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill, 2025 (HB.1597), was presented for concurrence by the Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Oyelola Ashiru, during Wednesday’s plenary.

Ashiru explained that the bill was designed to protect students from all forms of sexual misconduct and abuse within academic environments.

“While providing clear legal frameworks for the enforcement and punishment of offenders”.

He further stated that the bill was enacted to promote and protect ethical standards in tertiary education, the sanctity of the student-educator relationship of authority, dependency and respect for human dignity.

According to the Senate, any person who commits any of the offences or acts specified in clause 4 (1), (2) and (3) of this Bill is guilty of an offence of felony and shall, on conviction, be sentenced to an imprisonment term of up to 14 years but not less than 5 years, without an option of a fine.

“(i) Any person who commits any of the offences or acts specified in Clause 4 (4), (5) and (6) of this Bill is guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to an imprisonment term of up to 5 years but not less than 2 years, without an option of a fine.”

The bill states that a student who alleges harassment may also pursue a civil action for breach of fiduciary duty, and that the standard of proof shall be the same as in civil proceedings.

It outlines a wide range of offences, including demanding sexual favours, making sexual advances, inducing others to commit harassment, and unwanted touching or gestures.

During the debate, some lawmakers called for the bill’s scope to be expanded.

The lawmaker representing Edo North, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, argued that the legislation should also cover workplaces and other sectors.

“There is no need to restrict sexual harassment issues to students. We should craft this law in a way that gives it universal application,” he said.

But the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary, noted that the bill had already passed through the House of Representatives and was only open for concurrence.

Barau also explained that existing laws already addressed harassment in workplace settings.

The bill was subsequently adopted and passed for third reading.
