Konga floats Africa’s first buyers and sellers TV

Published

on

As Nigerians are going through seasons of very high cost of living, including suffocating cost of fund to do business, a piece of exciting news has emerged that Konga is set to pioneer a 24-hour Buyers and Sellers TV, which is set to launch in the month of October to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.

Konga TV, an Internet Protocol TV (iPTV) channel widely reputed as Africa’s first buyers and sellers TV, will go live early in October 2023.

The development, which has sparked excitement among media watchers and stakeholders in Nigeria’s Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail sectors is set to further revolutionize the online broadcasting and commerce space in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest market.

Efforts to reach the Management of Konga, Nigeria’s leading composite e-Commerce group, were not successful but a staff of the company’s Customer Experience Team, who is in a position to know, confirmed that internal test-run has commenced and is sure that within days, Konga TV will go live to the public. According to the staff who craved anonymity, the TV station shall create democracy in pricing of goods and services in Nigeria, no matter where you are located, but for genuine products only. She disclosed that both sellers and buyers in Nigeria lack true freedom because of lack of market intelligence.

While sellers are overburdened with huge inventories unable to sell, buyers pay above reasonable market prices, adding that no one gives a space to millions of MSMEs raising their heads because cost of marketing and distribution is very high in Nigeria and stifles young entrepreneurs. She summarized the 24-hour Konga TV as democracy in the marketplace for genuine products and services across all categories – FMCG, Computing, Home and Kitchen, Mobile Gadgets, Fashion, Power and Renewable Energy products, Real Estate, Hotel Bookings, Flight tickets, Furniture, Vehicles of all categories, etc.

“It is a platform where willing buyers cut deals with sellers at a huge discount for genuine products only and guaranteed by the Management of Konga 24 hours a day and delivered on time as promised.”

She also mentioned that a lot of global leading Companies Executives shall be brought live on Konga TV to talk about their companies and inspire Nigerians, same with Nigerian entrepreneurs who have big story to tell about their headaches and successes.

The official launch date of Konga TV is being awaited from the Management of Konga.

NLC, TUC issue 7- day strike notice to Soludo
Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and their Trade Union of Nigeria (TUC), counterparts, have issued Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State a seven-day strike notice over refusal to fully implement the 2019 minimum wage and six other pending issues.

The other issues are the Contributory Pension Scheme, Ndiolu Microfinance Bank Issue, Constitution of Civil and Judiciary Service Commission, Wage award, and Non-appointment of Commissioner for Labour matters or Creation of Ministry of labour and Productivity.

In a letter dated May 15, 2024, to the governor, Chairmen, and secretaries of the two labour centres in the state, Humphrey Nwafor and Gaius Chukwuka (NLC), Chris Ogbonna and Alex Ebi (TUC), recalled a similar letter to the governor on March 5, 2024, and a communique reached between March 5 and 13, 2024, on the same issues to no avail.

Giving insight into the pending issues, organised Labour said it reviewed the issue of contributory pension “as a scam whereby workers salaries is being deducted without counterpart remittance from the government and retired workers could not access part of salaries deducted. “The deductions since 2018 were kept in government coffers without the constitution of the board to regulate the activities of Pension Fund Administrators, PFA’s. Organized Labour therefore demands immediate suspension of the deductions of contributory pension scheme from workers’ salaries and immediate refund of those monies deducted from workers’ salaries.

“The organized labour frowned at inhuman and fraudulent activities going on in the Ndi-olu Microfinance Bank. The organized labour demands for immediate dissolution of the Ndi-olu microfinance Board and calls on the government to set up a panel to investigate the activities of the bank not limited to monies deducted from workers’ salaries for recapitalization, non-remittance of shares accrue to workers of Anambra State, etc.

“The organized labour viewed the non-constitution of civil service commission, Judicial Service commission amongst others as negligence and deliberate act by the government to destabilize the system and stagnant workers from being promoted and have access from other entitlements. The organized labour demands immediate constitution of all boards that are due for reconstitution to enable workers to have access to their rights and privileges.

“The organized labour frowns at the non-appointment of permanent secretaries for two years as an act of insensitivity on the part of the government to the advancement of workers’ welfare and growth. The organized labour is dissatisfied with the usage of three permanent secretaries in running the two MDAs despite the fact; that they are the accounting officers of various MDAs as stipulated in the Anambra State Finance Act 2020. The organized labour demands the immediate appointment of permanent secretaries for smooth running and administration of civil service.

“The organized labour feels disappointed over the sudden removal of the N12,000 wage award by Anambra State government even when hunger and hardship in the land persist. The organized labour expects the government of Anambra to emulate her counterpart in the federation who are putting measures to cushion the effects of excruciating hunger, hardship, and deprivation in the country by providing palliatives and upward review of the removed wage award to her workers and sustaining the payment till the full implementation of new minimum wage commences.

“The organized labour felt neglected over the non-appointment of Commissioner for Labour and Productivity or creation of this important ministry in the state to oversee the affairs of Labour matters and its activities, as this has been hindering the advancement and progress of Labour union’s activities in the state.

“The organized labour expects the state Government to have emulated its counterparts in the 36 states of the federation in creating this all-important ministry than treating organized labour with uttermost negligence. This has been causing commotion among Labour leaders.

“Given the above issues raised, the organized labour demands that these issues be resolved within seven days from today (May 15) and after the expiration, if our demands are not met, the organized labour will not guarantee industrial peace and harmony in Anambra State,” they added.

NJC drops ex-Gov Yahaya Bello’s wife, Amina from list of judges approved for Kogi High Court

The Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) has finally dropped the name of Amina Bello, the wife of the fugitive and immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, from the list of nominees to be appointed as judges of the High Court of Kogi State.

On January 8 seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria had sued the NJC and the Kogi State government for shortlisting Amina for appointment into the state’s judiciary.

In the Originating Summons with Suit No: FCT/ABJ/CS/05/2024, the Plaintiffs are Chief Yunus Ustaz Usman and J.S. Okutepa. Others namely Patrick Okolo, Abdullahi Haruna, Reuben Atabo, Shaibu Aruwa and Johnson Usman argued that the selection process violated regulations and constitutional principles of fairness, equity, and merit.

On October 26, 2023, about 17 SANs from Kogi State had called for the suspension of the appointment of new Judges into the state judiciary until certain criteria were met.

The lawyers made the demand in a letter to the Chief Judge and Chairman of Kogi State Judicial Service Commission, Justice Josiah Majebi, which was dated October 20, 2023.

Titled “RE: Provisional Short-list Of Candidates Of Ten Judicial Officers Of The High Court Of Justice, Shariah Court Of Appeal And Customary Court Of Appeal,” the indigenous Kogi SANs stated that the appointment of Judges to superior courts of record is regulated and requires provision of basic facilities such as availability of courtrooms/Judges chambers, official cars, residential accommodation as well as equipped library in Judges’ chambers, citing Rules 1-5 of National Judicial Council Revised Guidelines.

In the 12-point issue raised in the letter signed by Yunus Ustaz Usman, Life Bencher for himself and on behalf of 16 other SANs, the legal practitioners also pointed out that the proposed candidates listed for appointments of judges did not reflect a geographical spread.

My enemies have been defeated, they now sleep with eyes open, says Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, declared on Thursday that his battles were over as he had defeated his opponents, who are not sleeping with their two eyes open.

He said he had turned the tide against his opponents, noting that he was still in office about to mark his first anniversary, contrary to the plan by his detractors.

Fubara spoke on Thursday amid the ranging feud between him and his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

Last October, Fubara survived an impeachment plot by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike.

As of Wednesday, nine members of his cabinet loyal to Wike had tendered their resignation and exited.

Addressing the national and state leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara said he appreciated their support and the assurance that they were with him but said, “there is nothing to call on you for because we have already defeated them.”

The IYC leadership was on a solidarity walk to the Government House in Port Harcourt, to celebrate the Isaac Adaka Boro Day.

The solidarity walk was part of activities to celebrate the heroic exploits of the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro, 56 years after his death, which is observed on May 16, every year.

Boro, it will be recalled, formed the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, an armed militia with members consisting mainly of his fellow Ijaw ethnic group who declared the Niger Delta Republic on February 23, 1966, and fought with federal forces for 12 days before they were defeated.

After he was granted amnesty, he enlisted and was commissioned as a Major in the Nigerian Army, fought on the side of the Federal Government during the civil war but was killed under mysterious circumstances in active service in 1968 at Ogu (near Okrika) in Rivers State on May 9, 1968.

Speaking with the Ijaw youths, Fubara acknowledged the assurances of brotherly support from the council and urged the Ijaw Nation to key into the ongoing celebration of the liberation the state now enjoyed.

“I am happy that you’ve told me this morning that when I call on you, you will respond. But there is nothing to call on you for because we have already defeated them.

“By the special grace of God, what they thought that they would have done to us while we were celebrating our one year in office, they are the ones sleeping with their two eyes open. It shows that we have the Ijaw blood. And what is that blood: it is the blood of action; less talk, more action,” Fubara said.

Fubara noted that Boro genuinely stood for equity, justice, and fair play, and pursued his course to ensure liberation for the Ijaw people and their clans.

He described every genuine Rivers man as a liberator, adding that he was delighted to receive them on such auspicious day to re-enact the common purpose of liberation that they shared.

“Because he (Isaac Boro) stood for that unique thing, even after his death, we still celebrate him because he was a liberator.

“Every Rivers man, it doesn’t matter whether you are Ijaw or upland, the most important thing is that every genuine Rivers man must be a liberator.

“And I’m happy that you have come here today. I have also received you because we have one common purpose: to liberate our dear state. We are not going back on that.”

The governor thanked the crowd for their assurances of being available to respond to his call and stand by him and appealed to Ijaw youths to conduct themselves peacefully as they celebrate Major Isaac Adaka Boro Day.

He stressed that it should be done in the same spirit that had enveloped the state now, celebrating victory over his political detractors.

In his speech, the National President of IYC, Mr Jonathan Lokpobiri, described the day as historic, because Ijaw people were meeting with their governor on Major Isaac Adaka Boro Day of Memorial.

He warned all detractors to retrace their steps and allow the governor, who had the full mandate of the people, to discharge his duties to Rivers people.
