A 23-year-old hair stylist, Motunrayo Balogun has been reported to have attempted suicide after she was allegedly dumped by her boyfriend who resides around Ijapo Estate in Akure South local government area of Ondo state.

The lady was said to have consumed a poisonous substance popularly known as Sniper.

It was gathered that Balogun has been having a smooth relationship with her boyfriend until the boy told her that he was no longer interested in the relationship.

This is coming barely two weeks after a DSS officer in Lagos jumped into the river after she reportedly had issues with her fiancée.

It was also gathered that Balogun’s mother who saw her lying on the floor in her room breathless, with an empty bottle of poison in her hands, rushed her to the nearest hospital where she was revived.

It was also gathered that Balogun, who is always full of life before she met her boyfriend, withdrew to her shell and turned an introvert.

Speaking with our correspondent, a close friend of Balogun who craved anonymity described her as a very beautiful lady that every man would want to have.

“I don’t understand why she did such a thing to herself.

“The man does not give her breathing space. He is always monitoring her movement and everything she does. Yet, he doesn’t have regard for her.

“Even when she comes to work, three hours later, you will see him drive down to check up on her every now and then.

“I’m sure it might be because most guys stay away from their girlfriends when the festive period is approaching, so as not to spend money on them, only for them to reconcile after New Year celebration. Maybe that was the case. I can’t really tell. Because I don’t see any reason for the break up now.

“But the reason she took that step is what I don’t understand. For me, no man is worth such decision. It was a very bad idea,” she lamented.

…hits critics, says ‘my husband wasn’t a weakling’

The wife of the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Betty Akeredolu, in her tribute, lamented that her husband left her “alone to face all manners of mockery.”

Betty, in her tribute, said, “You just left me, just like that. It hurts, badly it hurts. Now alone to face all manners of mockery.

” Not a few lashed out that you were a weakling because you loved me.

“A beg o! Can an Amotekun generalissimo be a weakling? Mbanuu! It doesn’t add up nau. Haba!
By the way, do they know what love is?

“I don’t think so. In their homes while growing up they saw their mothers trampled upon as doormats. Beaten up like punchbags.

“They copied the template and treated their wives as pieces of furniture that can be easily discarded as trash. And in many instances the subjugation was garnished with beatings while the community looked the other way and remained unperturbed as gender based violence reigned supreme nationwide.

“In civilised climes, if you beat your wife, jail awaits you even if you are a Governor.

“They marvel that a Nigerian man can love his wife. To them na only Oyibo man dey love

“They are infuriated that a Yoruba man can love his wife who is Igbo. How can? Igbo lasan, lasan!

“To them, na only Oyibo man dey love.

“Na love at first sight brought us together, biko. No be juju!

“Na love make me cross the Niger.

“That love at first sight turned out to be true and pure. And you were proud to say it. You were proud to show it.

“You were even prouder to tell the people of Ondo State and beyond that we were a team. You were audacious to tell your people that “you voted for one but got two”. A testimony of my positive contribution to your life and career, emotionally and intellectually.

“We differed on one aspect, though. Religion. You were religious and wore your faith on your sleeves. I’m not. With no apologies. You were frustrated. Yet, we managed to work it out by harnessing our communication skills.

” You came to terms with my position on religion and respected my choice of pragmatism. And a peaceful home we built by respecting each other’s idiosyncrasies, supporting each other’s career pathways and loving each other at the same time. That you were courageous and fearless are now like a radio jingle on the lips of all and sundry.

“As a partner, you were kind and playful but annoying sometimes with your jokes which became normal over the years given that trying to change you from cracking expensive jokes was an exercise in futility.

“During our early years of marriage when we started from the scratch, you made sure we didn’t lack. You took care of me and the children.

” With time, you became the best husband, dad and grandpa any wife, child or grandchild would wish for.

“Aketi’s tribute to Betty @60 on July 20, 2013 gives the reader an insight into the marriage of 42 years we had.

“We were soul mates. If there is anything like another life, I will marry you and you remain Darlin’mi!”

Delta’s First Ladies of Grace: From Roli to Tobore

The legacy of grace that has successively been the hallmark of the First Ladies of Delta State since the days of Mrs Roli Uduaghan has been reaffirmed by the present First Lady of the state, Deaconess Tabore Oborevwoacari.

Mrs Oborevwori gave heed to that heritage at the 17th Mothers Arise Annual Prayer Conference that had the theme, “Remember Me Oh Lord.”

The annual prayer conference was institutionalized by Mrs Roli Uduaghan when her husband, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan was governor of the state.

It followed her particular testimony of consecration to God and devotion following the apparent call of God to mobilise the womenfolk of the state.

Mrs Uduaghan had in an interview with Vanguard recalled how following the death of her dad whom she claimed was very close to her she had received many donations including funds to buy jewelry. She, however, in an act of selfless valor redirected the funds to build a house for him. that thought she claimed made her conscious of the fact that the jewelry she had hitherto been much inclined to was like a burden and heavy as the house it had built. That experience which partly redirected her towards a more consecrated life.

That dedication was in part reflected in the Mothers Arise Annual Conference.

Remarkably, Mrs Uduahgan’s successor as First Lady sustained the Mothers Arise Annual Conference for the eight years her husband was governor between 2015 and 2023.

Given the apparent positive impact of the programme, it was no surprise that Mrs Oborevwori has picked up the gauntlet to sustain that heritage.

The theme of the 2024 programme was ”Remember me oh Lord”.

However, in an act of selfless enhancement of the matrimonial cord with her husband, Mrs Tobore Oborevowri instead of whipping up the audience to remember her, asked that her husband be remembered.

She said: ”I want to appeal to all my sisters here to continue to support my husband for his MORE agenda to succeed for us to enjoy the dividends of democracy in our state.

“There is nothing there; all you need is God’s guidance in all you do.

”Because with God, all things are possible and with prayers nothing shall be impossible,” she added.

She urged them to ensure love among themselves.

”This is what defines us as Christians,” she said.

The event was witnessed by some of the state’s leading ladies.

She commended wives of former governors for making the programme an annual event.

”I thank God for giving Mrs Roli Uduaghan this vision and for saying yes to God.

”She ran this programme for eight years and handed it over to my predecessor, Dame Edith Okowa who also ran it for another eight years before handing over to me, today, I’m standing here to take over from my mother and my mentor, Dame Okowa,” she said.

The governor’s wife also commended the ministers, the women who made the event a reality.

Earlier, the Assistant Chaplain of Government House Chapel, Pastor Solomon Nathaniel who took his sermons from the books of

Isaiah 49:15-16 and Isaiah 43:26, 41:2 stressed the need for mothers to go back to the old time religion of keeping active prayer alters in their homes.

He also admonished them to be visionary, anticipating what the future would produce, given the kind of seeds being sown into the lives of the children of  this generation.

Disclosing this to journalists in a press statement, the media assistant to the commissioner, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu said that the culprits who confessed to officials of the ministry after their arrest blames the prevailing economic hardship in the country was the reason for their actions.

She said: “Chinyere explained that she had 11 kids and couldn’t cater for them, hence her decision.
