The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State Chapter, has condemned street agitations being staged in parts of the country, especially across the South East, under the banner of the #FreeNnamdiKanuProtest.

Tha APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, in an statement on Monday said that the party condemned in the strongest terms “the orchestrated tension and politically motivated street agitations.”

According to him, the party finds it deeply disturbing that certain opposition leaders, who should know better, are the ones endorsing and sponsoring the protests.

He said that the alleged the involvement of opposition leaders revealed what could only be described “as a classic case of the Biblical hand of Jacob but the voice of Esau”.

He said that the protest was a deceitful manipulation hiding behind the façade of activism.

“While freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are sacrosanct in any democracy, what we are witnessing is far from a legitimate call for justice.

“It is a dangerous display of reckless politics, carefully scripted by desperate opposition figures who see chaos as their last political weapon.

“This so-called protest is not about justice; it is about political frustration.

“It represents the height of bitter, destructive politics – an attempt by those who have been roundly rejected by Nigerians at the polls to exploit national issues in search of cheap relevance,” Oladejo said.

He described as shocking the insensitivity of the protest organisers and their sponsors.

Oladejo lamented that the protesters were embarking on a protest at a time when the South East was still bleeding from years of mindless bloodshed, kidnappings, and enforced sit-at-home orders.

He said that with all consequences of violent agitation, the protesters had chosen to mock the memories of the victims.

“They ignore the tears of widows, the pains of orphans, and the devastation of communities ruined by senseless violence.

“Their protest is not a demand for justice; it is a betrayal of the sacrifices of the innocent,” the APC chieftain said.

According to him, for years, ordinary citizens in the South East have lived in fear.

He said that traders were afraid to open their shops, transporters grounded by threats, children deprived of education, and families shattered by insecurity.

Oladejo said: “Yet, instead of standing with their people to heal these wounds, these political opportunists have returned to fan the embers of division, hoping to profit from instability.

“Let it be clear: no one is above the law. The case of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu remains a judicial matter properly before the courts.

“Nigeria’s judiciary is competent, independent, and capable of delivering justice without recourse to mob pressure or street intimidation.”

He called on security agencies to remain vigilant, urging all patriotic Nigerians, especially leaders of thought in the South East, to reject the antics of those who traffic in bitterness.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and we must not allow political desperation to tear it apart.

“There must indeed be a limit to bitter politics,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there have been several appeals to President Bola Tinubu to grant clemency to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. (NAN)

Tinubu is an ‘Angel’ sent by God to fix Nigeria – Yahaya Bello

President Bola Tinubu and Yahaya Bello

A former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has described President Bola Tinubu as the “angel” sent by God to fix Nigeria.

He said this on Saturday during an endorsement rally for President Tinubu and Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, which was broadcast by TVC.

Bello said, “We will not wait for God to send an angel with wings to fly into Nigeria to fix it. Did I tell you who the angel is? The angel is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. If you are waiting for that animation on the television, see an angel flying with a wing to come to Nigeria to come and fix it, you wait forever.”

Bello told supporters that Nigerians had long craved a “new Nigeria,” citing achievements such as the removal of oil subsidy, the introduction of student loans, the floating of the exchange rate, and policies that increased both government and individual wealth.

He urged citizens not to wait for miracles, saying the “angel” tasked with fixing the country was President Tinubu himself.

He said, “Everybody continues to crave a new Nigeria, new Nigeria, new Nigeria. Before 2015, we said we wanted a new Nigeria where there would be no oil subsidy. We want a new Nigeria where there will be student loans.

“We said we want a new Nigeria where the exchange rate will be floated. We said we want a new Nigeria where there will be more money in the pockets of both the government and individuals. We said we want a new Nigeria where foreign investment will continue to flow in.”

The former governor acknowledged that the government cannot fix everything immediately.

He noted that years of systemic decay make the process gradual.

He also promised continued support for Tinubu’s administration to ensure infrastructure and reforms are sustained.

He said, “Those of us and those of you who recognise that we are already in the new Nigeria, infrastructures are being fixed. Yes, no government can fix everything all at once because of the long years of decay in the system. It will take a while for anybody to be able to fix it. And Mr. President is fixing it, and he will fix it. We will support him to fix it.”

Bello emphasised the importance of legacy, stating that leadership without a lasting impact is meaningless.

He said, “Going into the future, not only the 2027 election, not just his second term, we want a situation where Mr. President will leave his legacy behind, and people like us, people like you, and other well-meaning Nigerians will continue to uphold his legacy because leadership without legacy is zero. It’s as good as you never come to power.”

Bello concluded by reflecting on his own contributions, declaring, “Today, I am happy. I feel fulfilled. This is my legacy. These are my legacies. Some of my legacies are watching me.”

Bello’s endorsement comes as political momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu expected to seek a second term.

Tinubu has been credited by his allies with introducing significant economic and governance reforms since assuming office in 2023.

These include the removal of fuel subsidies, the introduction of student loans, the floating of the exchange rate, and policies designed to attract foreign investment and boost national revenue.

Former Enugu LG Chairman, Ezinwa, condemns PDP spokesman’s attack on Ex-Enugu Gov, Ugwuanyi

Former governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

Former Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area in Enugu State, Hon. Fred Chukwudi Ezinwa, has strongly condemned recent comment by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi against the immediate past Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, describing it as baseless and reckless.

Ezinwa, in a press statement issued in Enugu on Saturday, expressed regrets that at a period when Nigeria’s political climate demands restraint, maturity and statesmanship, certain individuals occupying sensitive positions in the opposition PDP “have chosen to trade decorum for recklessness.”

He specifically cited Abdullahi’s comments during a live appearance on Arise Television “where he unjustifiably described the influence of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as having diminished” and went further to make an unfortunate claim that the former governor had “reduced himself to a subordinate” to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

According to Ezinwa, who was also Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Enugu Depot, such a statement coming from a national officer of the PDP, “is not only baseless but an unprovoked attack on the dignity of a respected statesman who has served both the party and the Nigerian nation with exceptional humility, discipline, and honor.”

“It is disturbing that a man entrusted with the responsibility of promoting the image and cohesion of his party would resort to public denigration of a former governor and national figure,” the former LG boss said.

The statement reads in part: “Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s legacy in governance and public service stands as a model of peace-driven leadership. As Governor of Enugu State, he prioritized unity, inclusiveness, and equitable development. His administration maintained one of the most peaceful atmospheres in the entire South-East, even at a time when other regions grappled with insecurity and political volatility.

Maduka College Advert

“He championed rural development, took governance to the grassroots, and fostered coexistence among diverse political interests. He led without arrogance and governed with empathy, values that continue to earn him widespread admiration. Those who know Ugwuanyi understand that humility is not a weakness; it is a mark of strength and character.

“It is therefore shocking that a spokesman of the PDP, a party in which Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi once played a major stabilizing role, would indulge in careless talk that undermines a man who contributed immensely to its success, both in Enugu State and at the national level.

“True leadership is not measured by loudness or transient influence but by the enduring impact one leaves behind. Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi’s calm demeanor and refusal to engage in political mudslinging demonstrate his maturity and deep sense of responsibility. By contrast, Dr. Abdullahi’s remarks reveal poor emotional intelligence and a failure to appreciate the ethics of public communication.

“Criticism within any political organization should be constructive and grounded in facts, not designed to ridicule senior figures who have paid their dues in service. The role of a Deputy National Publicity Secretary is to build bridges, not burn them.

“When a serving national officer uses a public platform to embarrass a two-term governor and former ranking member of the National Assembly, it sends a wrong signal to the public and diminishes the moral standing of the institution he represents.”

Ezinwa, therefore called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to review the conduct of Dr. Abdullahi and take appropriate disciplinary action to preserve the sanctity of party communication, adding, “the NWC must reassert that respect for elders, consistency in loyalty, and unity of purpose remain essential values in politics.”

Continuing, the former Council boss, said:  “No careless television comment can erase the fact that Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi remains one of the most humble, humane, and peace-loving political figures to emerge from the South-East. His leadership style, rooted in calmness and consultation, has become a reference point for conflict resolution and inclusive governance.

“His name resonates with ordinary citizens whose lives were touched through his people-oriented projects, from rural road networks and educational empowerment programs to community peace-building initiatives that earned Enugu the reputation of being one of the safest states in Nigeria during his tenure.

“It is this legacy that millions of Nigerians remember, not the fleeting statements of those seeking relevance in the media space.

“Let it be clearly stated that Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s political influence is not anchored on noise or flamboyance, but on integrity, service, and the enduring goodwill he enjoys among his people. He does not need to reply to provocations, because his record speaks louder than words.”

As a strategic stakeholder who once occupied a position of trust in Enugu State and a ‘proud beneficiary’ of Ugwuanyi’s visionary leadership, “I, Hon. Fred Ezinwa Chukwudi, strongly condemn Dr. Abdullahi’s remarks and urge all right-thinking Nigerians, including members of the opposition, to reject such divisive tendencies. Even in political opposition, respect for elders and civility in discourse should never be compromised.”

Ezinwa, therefore, advised political actors across parties to move with mutual respect, uphold democratic values, and focus on the greater goal of national unity and progress, stressing that history “will continue to vindicate Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as a man of peace, principle, and purpose, a leader who governed not for self, but for service.”
