Isiaka alleged that on one occasion, one of their children came to his abode with a machete with the aim of butchering him.
Isiaka stated that he moved out of the house he built because he could no longer tolerate his wife’s atrocities.
However, Adijat pleaded with the court to help beg her husband to withdraw the divorce suit brought against her.
Isiaka, in his testimony, said: “I am in court to formerly put an end to the relationship between my wife and I. My wife is far from being virtuous and has failed in putting her home in order.
“She constantly ridiculed me in the presence of our children and thereby turned me into a laughing stock before them
“I packed out of the house I built with my sweat after she had succeeded in frustrating me, and I rented another apartment. Presently, she is the only one living in the whole building.
“My wife, still not satisfied, will come to my shop to fight me.
“Adijat made my life more miserable by inciting our children against me. These have no respect or regard for me and readily flouted my orders.
“One of them to my chagrin came to my abode with a cutlass, which he brandished at me with the intention of butchering me. I would have been a dead man by now if I had not taken to my heels.
“My lord, I am not ready to die now.
“I, therefore, beseech this honourable court to grant my prayer of divorce.”
Adijat while giving her evidence made a plea that her husband should withdraw the divorce suit against her. “Please, help me beg my husband”, she said.
“I am sorry for all my shortcomings. I plead that he forgives me. He cannot divorce me now after having five children for him.
“My husband demanded to see me after having a misunderstanding with one of our children. I went to see him after much persuasion from one of his relatives. Our meeting ended up with me having an altercation with him.
“He rough-handled me and almost tore my clothes to shreds.
“Our child went irate on learning about his father’s uncouth behaviour and went to his place with a cutlass to threaten him. He child did not plan to kill him. His intention was to frighten his father with the cutlass.
“He only warned his father to stop mishandling me and to stop attempting to kill me because he has other wives.”
Akintayo adjourned the case after she had heard both parties.
