Naira Scarcity: Protesters shut Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway
Protesters shut the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at Sango-Ota on Tuesday over their inability to withdraw money from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) as the naira scarcity crisis rolled over.
They made bonfires of disused tyres on both sides of the highway causing serious traffic gridlock.
Some of the protesters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that current cash crunch had created serious pains and agonising moments.
Leader of the protesters, Mr Kazeem Sanni described the situation where bank customers could not access their money as unfortunate.
He said it had been double jeopardy for bank customers as the banks would neither load their ATMs with money nor allow depositors into the banking halls to make withdrawals.

CBN already instructed banks to load their ATMs with cash and to also allow depositors to withdraw a maximum of N20,000 across the counter.
“The situation is really pathetic as this has grounded and paralysed business activities,’’ Sanni lamented.
“We decided to demonstrate to show our grievances as we can no longer bear this hardship,’’ he stressed.
He called on the CBN to urgently print more new notes and ensure that banks complied with its directives.
A protester, Mr Rotimi Odubanjo, noted that the inability to withdraw money from banks had inflicted untold discomfort on the people.
“We need the Federal Government to come to our assistance and ease this cash and fuel scarcity,’’ he said.
He said the twin-scarcity of fuel and money had crippled economic activities and was leading to hunger.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that banks in area were closed to customers and the ATMs were also not dispensing cash.
Police, military and paramilitary personnel were scene along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, the scene of protest calming the protesters enraged over the naira scarcity.. (NAN)

Tinubu To Governors: You have enough money, stop building unnecessary Flyovers
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked governors to stop building flyovers where it is not really necessary, but redirect the resources to ventures and amenities that will assist in tackling the prevailing insecurity in the country.
Addressing traditional rulers from Oyo State, who visited him at Aso Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, the President also spoke about insecurity.
He said some of those terrorising Nigerians are non-Nigerians, adding that the problem of insecurity in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, is adding more fuel to our challenges.
Tinubu told the delegation led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, that the state police will soon be a reality.
He also promised that his administration will boost the forest guards to enable them compliment the effort of other security agencies.

He said, “In fact, that is why we must enhance the capacity of the forest guards as well as create the state police and you have governed before as the governor.
“You need to help us communicate to these governors. Today, the economy of operation is high. But the money that I’m pushing to the states, if you had it during your own time or during my time, it would have been different.
“Nobody is borrowing money to pay salaries now. Pensioners are receiving their pay, and they should do more, instead of fly over where there is no numeric traffic, build roads and arteries network to really enhance the quality of life and the accessibility of the security agencies to penetrate those areas.”

Commuters stranded as flood takes over Ore – Benin Expressway
Hundreds of commuters and motorists have been left stranded after floodwaters submerged a section of the Ore-Benin road along the Lagos–Benin expressway, causing massive traffic gridlock and disrupting movement on the busiest highways.
The flooding, triggered by hours of torrential rainfall, forced vehicles to move slowly through the submerged section while many others remained trapped in long queues stretching several kilometres.
Sever videos obtained by the Nation and circulating on social media showed a vast expanse of water covering the affected portion of the expressway, with motorists struggling to navigate the flooded road amid fears of possible accidents and vehicle breakdowns.

Some passengers, in one of the footages, were seen waiting by the roadside while others expressed frustration over the recurring flooding on the strategic highway, which serves as a major gateway linking, Ondo, Lagos and the South-West to Edo State and the South-South region.

One of the stranded motorists, identified simply as Henry in the footages, described the experience as traumatic, calling on government authorities to urgently intervene before the situation deteriorates further.
“Everyone is stuck here. We need urgent government attention right now. We are on our way to Lagos from Ondo State when we saw this. The situation is terrible,” he said in one of the viral video clips.

It was gathered that the flood caused severe delays for travellers, many of whom reportedly spent several hours on the road as drivers cautiously manoeuvred through the flooded section.
The latest flooding has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the Ore axis of the federal highway, particularly during the peak of the rainy season when heavy downpours often overwhelm drainage channels and inundate parts of the road.
The Ore-Benin corridor remains one of Nigeria’s most strategic transport routes, serving as a vital economic lifeline for the movement of goods, petroleum products and passengers between the South-West, South-South and South-East regions.
