The Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to go ahead to formerly declare its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Peter Mbah, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

This was even as the party warned the Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga against what it termed a do-or-die politics, noting that while the PDP had taken its losses with democratic equanimity, the LP wants INEC to cancel results of places where the LP lost elections.

Recall that at the state election collation centre on Sunday, the returning officer for Nkanu East LGA, announced that the PDP gubernatorial candidate polled 30,350 votes in his native LGA, Nkanu East, while his LP counterpart polled 1,855 votes to place second.

However, the LP, while not contesting the total of 30, 294 it recorded in Nsukka LGA, had called on the state returning officer to cancel that of Nkanu East.

But in a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Nana Ogbodo, the PDP Campaign Council demanded the immediate declaration of its candidate as the governor-elect for the state.

It said: “We call on INEC to immediately declare Dr. Ndubuisi Mbah as the governor-elect for Enugu State, having fulfilled all the requirements of the constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.

“We insist that the LP cannot be allowed to derail Enugu’s democratic progress with its do-or-die politics as avowed by its senator-elect, Chief Okey Ezea in a widely circulated video ahead of the governorship election.

“It is noted that the LP candidate won the gubernatorial election in Udenu, the local government of the incumbent governor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is of the PDP extraction and we did not complain.

“The LP also won the Enugu North senatorial seat in the 25th February election against a sitting governor of the PDP extraction, we did not reject their victory.

“Edeoga equally claimed to have garnered 12,518 votes in Isi-Uzo LGA where about half of the registered voters hail from Eha-Amufu and where thousands of people were recently displaced as a result of herdsmen attacks and related security crisis are just beginning to return home in trickles. But complaints from Isi-Uzo, especially Eha-Amufu showed that Edeoga militarised the election and forged election results; developments that have been officially communicated to the INEC and the authorities.

“We find it hypocritical on the part of the LP to accept its victory, including the votes it garnered from Nkanu East LGA to emerge the winner in the Enugu East senatorial election held on the same day as the governorship election, but only to reject the result of the governorship election because the PDP candidate expectedly garnered the most votes in his native LGA and stronghold”.

The PDP Campaign Council, therefore warned the Labour Party to stop overheating the polity and accept defeat.

“The LP and its governorship candidate must eschew the do-or-die mentality and acts capable of triggering confusion and political violence in Enugu’s democratic process.

“The INEC is not a Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, hence the LP is advised to stop dragging the election management body and its returning officer beyond their mandate. They should rather approach the Election Petition Tribunal if it feels aggrieved for any reason in the outcome of the governorship election”, the PDP concluded.

The senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has warned against the activities of members of the Accord Party in Ilesha ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba while addressing supporters in Ilesha, said there would be trouble if members of the Accord Party were seen in the area, urging his supporters to come out and vote during the election.He also called on those present to record his statement, while making a remark that suggested his supporters would confront Accord Party members if they encountered them before the election.“If we hear of Accord Party members coming to Ilesha, there will be trouble. We will all come out and vote. Please record me. We are here, and between now and the election, if we see anyone from the Accord Party, we will kill them,” he said.The statement comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with political parties intensifying campaigns and mobilisation of supporters across the state.Fadahunsi is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Fadahunsi clarifies comments

However, following intense criticisms of the senator’s threat, Fadahunsi, made a clarification on the intention behind his now-viral ‘Kill Accord’ comment currently circulating in a video on social media.

In the video, Fadahunsi was seen speaking in Yoruba and heard accusing Accord Party members of attacking members of the All Progressives Congress, as he urged the gathering to attack Accord Party supporters in Ilesa.

He was also seen daring those present to record his remarks and share them on social media, while reportedly addressing APC supporters in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

In a statement by his media office in the state capital on Tuesday, titled ‘Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC,’ the senator said his viral comment was “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement added.

It noted that the comment didn’t portray the lawmaker as an advocate of violence against any member of the public or political party.

Fadahunsi urged the APC supporters to maintain law and order over the course of the election, as he called on security operatives to allow voters to exercise their constitutional rights.

Accord Party governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that he is not intimidated by the alleged support of the Federal Government and some state governors for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

Adeleke described himself as a “bulldozer”, saying he was prepared to face what he described as federal might and the influence of governors backing his opponent.

The governor stated this on Tuesday during the Arise Townhall Meeting, where he also said he was not afraid of the governors supporting the APC candidate.

“I am a bulldozer. I am talk and do. I am not afraid of federal might and governors backing the APC candidate. If they like, they should bring all the governors,” Adeleke said.

He said the governors were his friends and expressed confidence that their presence in Osun would not determine the outcome of the election.

“Those governors are my friends. I am a civilised administrator. They won’t vote; they can only come and dance, and after the election, we will meet,” he said.

Adeleke also rejected allegations that his administration had militarised Osun State, saying he lacked the authority to deploy the armed forces.

“I did not militarise Osun. I have no such capacity. I am not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” he said.

The governor’s comments came amid heightened political activities ahead of the Osun governorship election, with the major political parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilisation across the state.

Ahead the 2027 Presidential election, the leadership of the Igbo Community Association (ICA) the umbrella socio-cultural organization in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) strongly refutes and rejects the recent statements made by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Minister of Works David Umahi, and Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwebonyi claiming that the South-East electorate is fully united behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

President General of the Igbo ethnic body, Nze Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe stated in a press Statement on Monday emphatically stated that the three of them are neither spokespersons of Igbos in the FCT. He added that, “these three are merely being sent out to talk for Tinubu against the interest of Igbos. The South-East considers the Tinubu administration as a failed administration and for this reason will not vote Tinubu.”

The ICA President noted for the avoidance of doubt, that it wishes to set the record straight for the public and the political establishment that the mandate to speak for the Igbo People neither lie in the hand of Governor Hope Uzodimma, Minister David Umahi, nor Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi who under Tinubu arrogate to themselves as the spokespersons for the Igbo ethnic group.

Nze Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, further agued that elected political appointees and ruling-party actors do not hold a mandate to declare a political consensus on behalf of millions of Igbo citizens.

The statement reads further, “These endorsements represent the personal political preservation strategies of a few office holders seeking to retain favor with the presidency. They do not reflect the true political stance, socio-economic realities, or grassroots sentiment of the South-East region.

“The grassroots population across the South-East considers the current federal administration to have failed on key economic and administrative metrics.

“The assertion that President Tinubu will sweep all five South-East states in 2027 is completely detached from the prevailing conditions on the ground.”

Meanwhile, The Igbo Community Association (ICA) FCT urges public officials from the South-East to focus on their constitutional duties, governance, and the immediate economic needs of their constituents, rather than attempting to trade away the political sovereignty of the Igbo electorate for personal leverage.
