Buhari govt used us to win 2019 Presidential Election and dumped us ― N-Power beneficiaries
• Ask FG to fulfil its promises to them before exiting
President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to as a matter of necessity fulfil the promise made to the over 14,000 beneficiaries of the Federal Government funded empowerment programme, N-power prior to the 2019 presidential election.
The beneficiaries who protested peacefully in Bauchi accused the government of using them to win the 2019 presidential election and thereafter dumped them living them in limbo without knowing the next step to take.
The beneficiaries further berated the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for leaving them in the dark as regards their entitlements since they were disengaged.
The beneficiaries led by Comrade Bashir Usman Gobir, the National President of N-power Beneficiaries Association of Nigeria in all 36 states and FCT staged a peaceful protest in Bauchi to express their displease over the situation.

Speaking with Journalists after the protest, Bashir Usman Gobir said that, “We are here at the NUJ Press Center in Bauchi to express our displeasure with the Federal Government of Nigeria over the promise made to over 500,000 people who participated in the N-power program across the country.”
According to him, “In 2016, 200,000 beneficiaries were enrolled, in 2017 another 300,000 were enrolled making a total of 500,000, the programme was meant to run for 2 years, so, because of the 2019 general elections, we were told that our payments will continue.
“But with the condition that we must use the stipend being paid to us, N30, 000 monthly to ensure the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term, this was relayed to us by someone from the office of the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo because the programme was under his office then.
“One Mr Afolabi who was the National President before the programme was moved to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was the one who relayed the message to us.
“We were categorically told that if we used our voter’s card to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari, we will be given permanent offers and to the glory of God, we did as we were told. We engaged in serious campaigns across the country, they even gave us smartphones which we used for the campaigns,” he added.
Gobir, however, lamented that “After the 2019 General elections which was successful, we were told that we will have additional 6 months to still be part of the programme before the authorities will decide the best thing to do for us and we indeed got the additional 6 months to March 2020.”
According to him, “some of us were then exited from the programme, 80,000 of them but the Ministry later claimed that it screened and discovered that only 17, 000 people were affected because they were Federal Government employees but benefiting from the programme.
“At the end, the Minister said that she had discovered that they used their Adhoc account details during the election duty, which exposed them, some of them used their NYSC account details, so promised to pay them,” he further said.
The National President added that “But in the month of May of 2020, they just exited the first batch of the beneficiaries, 200,000 people, then again in June 2020, another 300,000 people were exited but were told to be patient as they will be given employment in the service while others will be set up as employers of Labour, the promise was by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk. The programme was transferred to the Ministry at the end of 2019.
He stressed that “In order to convince us, the N-power recruitment portal was opened for us to access in order to upload our details including bank details and other information, we did that in the portal called N-Exit, which was in 2020.
“Then in 2021 nothing happened up till the end of the year, we did not hear nor see anything from them, we sought an audience with the minister to know what the problem was because some of us could not access the portal until it was closed.”
According to him, “Only 333,000 people were captured, those who could not access the portal then protested, they were then asked to use their phone numbers to fill the forms online, yet, they could not make it, till the end of the year 2021, the Ministry did not do anything about the situation.
“At the beginning of 2022, they brought up some numbers *465# which one will dial through which we will be trained on skills acquisition knowing fully well that we are graduates, at the end, we were charged the sum of N30 each time we dialled the numbers, at least one will spend N60 before he could get it right.
“Many tried more than 10 times and yet nothing happened, they then apologized to us that it was a network problem, and at the end of it, 300,000 people across the country scaled the huddle. Out of the number, 70,000 people were selected as Batch A to be trained in various skills, that was in March 2922, they actually went for 4 days of training after which they were given certificates of training.
“We later heard that for each of the venues of the training, the sum of N20m was allocated to take care of the participants for accommodation, feeding and allowance for transportation but nothing was done to us by the officials.
“Earlier, there was a selected payment of 5 months allowance to a negligible number of the beneficiaries, same people received N150, 000 on 3 occasions making N450, 000 each while the majority did not get anything. Out of the 500,000 beneficiaries, only 14,000 are yet to be settled.
“We have tried to ensure that they got their entitlement but to no avail, to drive home our demands, we organized a peaceful protest across the country and went to the Social Investment offices but they told us that it was beyond them at its is a problem of the Ministry, we could not get across to the Minister, we then went to the Senate and delivered our protest letter, that was in 2021, yet, nothing happened.
“The minister then used security operatives to terrorize us for demanding for our rights. I am from Sokoto state but we chose Bauchi State for our mega protest because all the ones we did in Abuja did not yield any positive results, the Minister is married to a Bauchi man and is always around here, so we feel that it will work out positively for us here in Bauchi.”
He also stated that “We heard that she is in Bauchi now, we hope that she will get our message through you Journalists. Nobody is sponsoring us to do what we are doing, we are the ones sponsoring ourselves, each member has contributed a token to drive the protest, N100, N200, N300, N500 etc.
“The minister later changed the concept and name of the scheme, we are N-power beneficiaries, and even the new beneficiaries are facing the same problem they kept calling me but I told them to go fight their cause because I am not their leader.
” We met and spoke with the SA Media and she told us that everything about N-power is no longer with the Ministry but returned to the CBN. We are calling on the Federal Government, as it promised us that if we voted for Buhari in 2019, it will give us employment, later they promised us skills acquisition training, some of us benefited while the majority have not, the present administration is winding down the, it should therefore give the 500,000 beneficiaries of the N-power program something to settle themselves and become useful considering our ages,” he concluded.

Oji River women mobilise support for Governor Mbah, APC ahead of 2027 polls
…Dame Madueke: Mbah’s investments in Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure transforming Oji River
Women of Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State have pledged their support for Governor Peter Mbah and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The women made their position known on Sunday at a gathering organised by the Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, at her country home in Inyi, Oji River LGA, as part of activities to celebrate womanhood and highlight the achievements of the Governor Peter Mbah administration in the council area.
Madueke said the event was organised to bring together women from Oji River irrespective of their political, religious or community affiliations, while also providing an opportunity to showcase projects and programmes executed by the state government in the area.

She said the Mbah administration had established 20 Smart Green Schools and 20 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres in Oji River, while work was progressing on the Umabi-Ehuhe Achi and Enugu-Aku-Inyi roads.

The commissioner also commended Governor Mbah for appointing indigenes of Oji River to various positions in his administration, as well as supporting women through different empowerment initiatives, including monthly financial assistance facilitated by the wife of the governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah.
“Today, we are giving out a lot of wrappers, rice, food and empowerment for the women. We also have a medical team that will check their vitals and everything,” she said.
Madueke disclosed that the gathering was also used to assess Permanent Voter Card (PVC) ownership among participants, noting that only women with PVCs were welcomed into the venue.

While noting that more than 3,000 women attended the gathering, she attributed the large turnout to sustained sensitisation efforts by the Executive Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area, Mr Greg Anyaegbudike.
The commissioner said the women had resolved to support Governor Mbah and APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
“We promise him that come 2027, Oji River will deliver votes for APC from top to bottom,” she declared.

Dame Madueke said the gathering was also a demonstration of the important role women play in community development and political participation, adding that the initiative was aimed at strengthening unity among women in Oji River and creating a platform for them to engage with government programmes and development initiatives.
She said the administration’s investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development had created tangible benefits for communities across the state, including Oji River.
Speaking, the wife of the council chairman, Mrs Uche Anyaegbudike, said women across Oji River had benefited from various empowerment and welfare programmes.

She said the initiatives had provided uniforms and wrappers to women, while petty traders, church groups and other beneficiaries had received financial assistance.
According to her, about 150 women received N100,000 each during the previous August meeting, while 20 women currently receive N100,000 monthly under an empowerment scheme.
She said the interventions had enabled beneficiaries to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Also speaking, the council chairman, Mr Greg Anyaegbudike, described the large turnout as evidence of the women’s support for Governor Mbah and the APC.
He said the women were not compelled to make any political declaration, stressing that their support was based on the impact of the administration in the council area.
“What you see here is that the crowd is organic. You can see old women coming out in their various uniforms and various groups coming here to say it is Peter Mbah.
“This is about the Smart Green Schools, the hospitals, human capital development and scholarships,” he said.
Anyaegbudike further disclosed that more than 123 indigenes of Oji River were currently benefiting from the state government’s scholarship programme for students in higher institutions.
The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, urged the women to sustain their support for Governor Mbah and the APC.
Enih said the governor had demonstrated commitment to improving infrastructure, human capital development and the welfare of residents across Enugu State.
She also commended Madueke for bringing the women together and creating a platform for them to celebrate womanhood, highlight government interventions and discuss further development in Oji River.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh, was among other dignitaries who attended the event.

GOCOP mourns former President Dotun Oladipo
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has expressed sadness over the death of its former President, Dotun Oladipo, publisher of The Eagle Online.
Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
He was President of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021 and was one of the publishers who helped shape the Guild in its early years.
His death is a loss to GOCOP and the wider Nigerian media community.
Oladipo came into online publishing with years of experience in the traditional media. He had worked as a journalist and editor before moving into digital publishing and bringing that experience to The Eagle Online.

At a time when online news publishing was still developing in Nigeria, he was among those who saw the need for publishers to come together, share ideas and build a stronger professional community.
That was also the period when GOCOP was growing from an association of online publishers into an organisation with a clear identity and a growing presence in the Nigerian media industry.
As President between 2017 and 2021, Oladipo devoted considerable time to the affairs of the Guild. He represented GOCOP at different engagements and worked with members as the organisation dealt with the opportunities and challenges that came with the rapid growth of online publishing.
GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, said Oladipo’s death was painful for the Guild.
“Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered,” Nmodu said.
He said Oladipo brought his experience as a journalist and publisher to the leadership of the Guild.
“Dotun understood journalism and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing,” Nmodu said.
Oladipo’s involvement in journalism began long before the emergence of online publishing as a major source of news in Nigeria. His career in the mainstream media gave him a grounding in reporting, editing and newsroom management.
He later became publisher of The Eagle Online, joining a group of journalists and publishers who moved into the digital space as the internet changed the way Nigerians received and shared news.
His years in GOCOP coincided with a period of rapid growth in online publishing. More news platforms were emerging, social media was changing the way stories reached readers, and online publishers were becoming increasingly important to the Nigerian media industry.
GOCOP said Oladipo’s contribution should be seen against this background.
The Guild also remembered him as a colleague who maintained relationships with publishers across the country and took an active interest in the affairs of the organisation even after leaving office.
GOCOP extended its condolences to Oladipo’s family, the management and staff of The Eagle Online, and his friends and colleagues in the media industry.
The Guild said it would work with his family and associates on plans to honour his memory.

Unknown gunmen abduct Dangote Cement driver in Ogun
Unidentified gunmen have abducted a Senior driver with Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, Usman Umar, popularly called ‘Baba Olowo’, at Ajibawo Village near Ijako-Orile, Yewa North Local Council of Ogun State.
The Guardian learnt that Umar was abducted at midnight on Wednesday while he was returning home from work and was allegedly attacked in front of his residence.
Sources said that on getting to his residence, three men attacked him as soon as he alighted from his motorcycle.
It was said that the kidnappers forcefully dragged him into a nearby bush, shooting sporadically into the air to frighten residents and deter them from attempting to intervene.
The abductors, it was gathered, did not come with a vehicle but whisked away the victim on foot along the bush path.

Security operatives have reportedly launched a rescue operation to locate the victim and bring the perpetrators to Justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Umar remained unknown, while details of possible ransom demands or communication from the abductors were not immediately available.
Efforts to reach the Spokesperson of the Police in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, proved abortive as he was not picking up his WhatsApp calls or messages. (The Guardian)
