Protests: Hoodlums attack church, steal 205 chairs, musical instruments in Katsina
Hoodlums who participated in the nationwide protest against bad governance in Katsina state have invaded some churches in the state looting and destroying properties.
The hoodlums earlier stormed the Living Faith Church in Daura Local Government Area, Katsina State, damaging the building and stealing all its valuables. The newly renovated church, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, suffered damage as its doors and windows were vandalized by the hoodlums who ransacked the building.
According to an eyewitness,
the hoodlums also attacked two other churches, the Deeper Life Church and Anglican Church, though the extent of the damages there was not immediately clear.
He explained that the hoodlums used Keke Napep (tricycle) to transport the stolen items from the church premises.
When contacted, Pastor David Jatau Sarki, in charge of the Living Faith Church, confirmed the attack on the church premises.

Narrating their ordeal, Pastor Jato said, “It happened around 10:00 am on the first day of the protest. The hoodlums many of them in Keke Napep ( Triacircle), chased the church’s security guard away, broke the door and windows, and entered the auditorium.
They parked and destroyed everything inside the Church auditorium, including the pulpits.
The list of items reportedly stolen from the church auditorium include three Plasma TV used for displaying church programmes, musical instruments, over 205 plastic chairs, pastor’s chairs, a desktop computer at the reception and a digital clock as well as a scoreboard where the accountant usually kept the church’s documents.
Pastor Jato revealed that as a result of the damages, today’s Sunday service could not hold in the Church auditorium. They had to worship in their various home cells instead.
The Living Faith Church Pastor disclosed that out of the three churches targeted, the hoodlums only succeeded in invading the Living Faith Church and Deeper Life, but could not force themselves into the Anglican church because of the strong protector at the gate.
Pastor Jato expressed shock that a protest against bad governance would target place of worship for destructions. “This is unacceptable and must be condemned,” he said.
“We’ve informed the police and the Army about it, and the police told us yesterday that they have made some arrests,” Pastor Jato disclosed.
Similarly, in Katsina State Capital, the Power of Resurrection Church was also vandalised by the hoodlums.
Reacting to the development, Former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Katsina, Rev. Nelson Onyekachuku, condemned the violence.
“He emphasised that the government needs to address these issues and ensure the protection of places of worship.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed the incident when contacted.
He further assured that arrests have been made while investigations are ongoing.

Police officer who said Obi, Igbo man can never be president arrested, in trouble
The Police Command in Lagos State has identified the police inspector seen in a viral video making inappropriate remarks while travelling in public transport.
The command also said it had begun disciplinary proceedings against the officer in line with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.
Adebisi said the command was committed to transparency and accountability and would not condone conduct capable of bringing the NPF into disrepute.
She said the statements made by the inspector were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the position, views or official disposition of the command or the NPF.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Mr Fatai Tijani, reiterated the need for professionalism, civility and discipline among personnel.
“CP Tijani reiterates that all personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
“He said wearing the police uniform came with the responsibility to uphold the integrity and reputation of the NPF.
“The CP warned that the command would not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the police.
“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to accountability and maintaining professional standards among its personnel,” Adebisi said.
The spokesperson said the command remained committed to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the inspector was seen and heard making political and ethnic remarks about former Anambra governor and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, while aboard a public transport.
The Inspector was also heard making claims about Obi’s suitability for the presidency and alleging that he was a criminal and a “Yahoo” person.
He further suggested that President Bola Tinubu would use his financial resources to defeat Obi in an election, while claiming that an Igbo man could not become president of Nigeria. (NAN)
