Yahaya Bello was reckless in speech, conduct, turned Kogi people to slaves – Former Minister Nweke Jnr
Former Nigerian Minister of Information and Communication, Frank Nweke, has reacted to the current ordeal of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, declared Yahaya Bello wanted in a circular made available to journalists on Thursday.
Recall that the operatives of anti-graft agency invaded Bello’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday, attempting to arrest him over an ongoing investigation into financial fraud.
However, his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, smuggled Yahaya Bellow out of his residence.
In a post via his X handle, the two-time federal Minister stated that the Kogi ex-governor is an example of those to whom political power should never be given.
According to Nweke, Yahaya Bello had no sense of responsibility or awareness, stressing he was reckless with his speech during his tenure and treated residents of Kogi State as slaves.
He wrote, “The man is a specimen of those to whom political power must never be handed to. He carried on as if there was no tomorrow. The man had no sense of responsibility. It’s doubtful he had a sense of self-awareness. Public service and public trust meant nothing to him.
“He was reckless in his speech and his conduct. Kogi people were his slaves. Every and anything Kogi was his to do as he pleased. He only remembered he had a tenure when it ended. Now we know why he chose to squat with his successor, the new caitiff, in Lugard House.”
A video of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State being attacked by critical Nigerians abroad with insults has emerged on the social media.
The verbal attack in a foreign country saw some Nigerians accusing the governor as he approached a building of walking on good roads whereas they claimed that his state lacks good roads.
The governor who was attired in a suit was walking alone as he approached a building for an engagement. Governor Obaseki, however, did not mutter a word to the crowd who attacked him with verbal insults as he kept his cool and walked across the hostile crowd.
A voice over to the video stated thus:
This is Obaseki right here. Your state has failed. That is Obaseki of Edo State. See as you are. You see the good roads here. Obaseki did you see good roads? Obaseki o-e, Obaseki -le. He is walking on a good road. That is the governor of Edo State. He is walking on a good road but his state doesn’t have good roads. That’s the governor.
Governor Obaseki has repeatedly alleged that the bad roads in Edo State are mostly federal roads which he claims the federal authorities have refused to repair.
The Edo State Government is yet to respond to the video and the date of the attack and specific place of attack are presently unknown.

Delivering judgment, magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji said that she convicted and sentenced Adeshina based on the evidence made available to her as well as his plea of guilt.
Latunji added that she sentenced the convict to three years in prison in spite of his plea to court to temper justice with mercy so as to serve as a deterrent to other criminals.
“I hope that the convict is truly remorseful of his action because you shall be subjected to stiffer punishment if caught again after completing your jail term.
“Therefore, Adeshina is sentenced to three years in prison with hard labour,” Latunji said.
Earlier, the prosecution, Insp Oluseyi Akinola told the court that the convict was arraigned on a five-count charge of stealing.
Akinola further stated that the Adeshina committed the crime on Dec. 26 2023, Jan. 12 and Feb. 16 respectively in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to him, Adeshina went to different churches around Mokola community, disguised as a member of the congregation.
The prosecution said that convict asks his victims to allow him make use of their phones for an emergency and takes off with the phones.
He said that nemesis caught up with the convict on April 8 when one of the victims apprehended him at Saint Stephen area of Mokola in Ibadan.
The prosecutor stated that Emmanuel Julius, Tosin Jimoh, Blessing Ogunniyi, Deborah Babatunde and Modupe Olalere had reported the matter at Mokola police station about the serial theft of their mobile phones.
He said that the convict stole an Infinix Alt6 worth N60,000; a Techno pop C valued at N55,000, Itel 860, valued at N78,000; Iphone XI valued at N180,000 and Infinix Max7 valued at N110,000.
Akinola said the offence contravened the provisions of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Act Cap 38 Vol II Law of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000. (NAN)
Operations, Maj -Gen. Edward Buba, says 12 personnel of the Nigerian Army are facing a court martial in respect of the bombing incident at Tudun Biri in Kaduna State.
Buba made this known while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja on the operations of the Armed Forces.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that 85 civilians were on Dec. 3, 2023, mistakenly killed in military drone attacks in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Buba said that the military would punish personnel found culpable in the Dec. 3 incident, adding that investigation was conducted and concluded with a resolve to ensure that the personnel involved were brought to book and justice served for the victims.
“The military has conducted a painstaking investigation into the incident and has initiated disciplinary action against those culpable.
“Accordingly, the affected personnel are to face a court martial for acts of omission or commission with respect to the incident.
“I am however constrained not to speak much about the incident as it would be adjudged as prejudicial being a case before court martial.
“The military will take extra precautions in the future to ensure that non combatants are safe,” he said. (NAN)
