The Commander, NNS Lugard Lokoja, Commodore Ugochukwu Ajulu, while parading the two suspects, Denis Foukorighe (a retired Corporal in the Army) and Paul Obor (both natives of Benue State), on Friday in Lokoja before handing them and the illicit substance over to officers of the NDLEA, said the culprits loaded the substance into a Honda Accord saloon car, conveying the items from Edo State to somewhere in Area 1, Garki, Abuja, for commercial purposes.

He stated that they were arrested on Tuesday during the Navy’s usual snap checks operations along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road in Kogi State.

According to him, “We are here at NNS Lugard Lokoja to hand over the two culprits and the illicit substances weighing over 400 kilograms, including a Honda salon car, to NDLEA officials for onward prosecution in the law court.”

While urging all security checkpoints in the state to be wary of people transporting illicit substances through the state to other locations across the country, Commodore Ajulu noted that the Navy checkpoints in Kogi have been very active in line with the mandate given to them by the chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, stating that the mandate has started yielding results with Tuesday’s interception of illicit drugs.

He charged Nigerian youth to engage in lawful businesses that will give them legitimate livelihood instead of unlawful business that will land them in jail.

“The youth should learn trades that can give them legitimate livelihood. There is no excuse whatsoever for anybody to indulge in illicit business. I am appealing to Nigerian youth to desist from every form of illicit business because there are many legitimate things they can do to earn a living.

“They can learn carpentry, auto-mechanic, tailoring, masonry, among others that can be sources of livelihood for them. The youth should look inward into what they can do legitimately that can benefit them and the society at large,” Commodore Ajulu said.

The Officer in charge of Strike Force NDLEA, Kogi State Command, Superintendent of Narcotics Olorunfemi Abolarinwa, who received the two culprits on behalf of the agency, said the suspects would be investigated thoroughly before they face prosecution in the law court to serve as a deterrent to others.

“It is evidently clear that wherever there are illicit drugs, there are series of crimes being perpetrated. As an agency in the fight against illicit drugs, we will continue to sensitize the citizens on the need to do away with dealing in all prohibited drugs because of its adverse effects on people,” he stated. Autopsy failed to ascertain cause of Mohbad’s death – Pathologist

The autopsy conducted on the body of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, is said to have been unable to ascertain the cause of his death.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the coroner’s inquest held in Lagos State on Wednesday.

According to him, the pathologist in charge of the autopsy told the coroner that the deceased’s body had decomposed by the time the test was conducted.

He said, “According to him (pathologist), the cause of death cannot be determined because by the time they conducted the test, the body had decomposed and that it is not possible for them to determine the cause of death.

“So, in summary, he is saying the cause of death cannot be ascertained. When you say the cause of death cannot be ascertained, it means it is suspicious, it is not clear. No particular reason.”

According to Shittu, the pathologist further stated that the late singer may have died due to a reaction to certain drugs administered to him before he died.

“He went further to say that he does not know whether it is those drugs that led to the death,” he added.

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, says Nigerians are in pains, calling on President Bola Tinubu to open a channel of communication with the people on when his policies will begin to yield result.

Kukah said even though the “pains are unintended”, it was brought about as the results of certain policy decisions that hopefully, with time will serve the welfare of the people.Kukah disclosed this to State House reporters on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The clergy man said even though the times are difficult it is also a time for renewal, asking Nigerians to brace themselves because “building a good society takes a lot of time.”

“I came to see the President with the Director of the Kukah Centre. we came to discuss with the President an invitation we had earlier extended, which we renewed, to have a conference in which we will like him to be in attendance, addressing the theme of National cohesion. So, that’s really what we came to discuss.”

Asked to evaluate the one year administration of Tinubu, he said “I ’m sure many people will tell you that one year is not enough to make a judgment. However, from where we all stand, we know that we are all in a very difficult situation.

“Nigerians are in various levels of pain and they are pains that are unintended. But they are the results of certain policy decisions that hopefully, with time, can be amended in order to serve the welfare of the people.

“Because I believe that the essence of government is to guarantee the welfare and security of ordinary citizens. I believe that the times that we are in now are very difficult times and nobody should be under any illusion. But they are also times for renewal.

“We just need to commit ourselves to the fact that building a good society takes a lot of time. It’s not something that is done in one life time. And for me, the most important thing is to continue on the building blocks of the things that we think are being done well.

“My argument has always been that the government needs to very quickly improve the quality of communication so that Nigerians can at least get a sense of how long is it going to be before food is ready.”

On Rivers political crisis, Kukah said what is happening is politics and very often, “we ordinary people cry more than the bereaved. The important thing is politicians will fix their problems.

“Rivers State is a place that is very dear to me because I have been associated with them for a very long period of time.

“But look, when politicians fight, don’t get carried away because they have their capacity to fix their quarrel. And I hope and pray that Rivers State will sooner rather than later reposition because it is not an insignificant part of Nigeria.”
