Okupe was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday.

The ex-presidential aide was said to be on his way to the United Kingdom, via a Virgin Atlantic flight, when he was arrested in the early hours of Thursday.

The spokesman of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanaya, confirmed the development in a terse statement on Thursday.

He said the arrest was at the instance of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Afunanya said: “Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning at the instance of the EFCC.

“He has long been handed over to the Commission, which requested for the action.

“Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic.”

He was later released by the anti-graft agency.
